Now >8,000 Certified Beer Servers!

On November 16, 2011 the Cicerone Certification Program recognized its 8,000th Certified Beer Server. Continued support from brewers, distributors and retailers who sell and serve beer has brought the program to this notable milestone just a few months after passing the 5,000th certification back in April.

"We are gratified by the acceptance and support we receive from the industry," said program founder and director Ray Daniels. "We will continue working to ensure that the certifications have value to the industry and match up with the demands placed on people in their work."

It has been a little more than three years since the first person took the online exam in January 2008. Participation in the program accelerated in 2010, with more than 2,000 people passing  the exam to become Certified Beer Servers during the year.

The program now has more than 330 Certified Cicerones and 4 Master Cicerones on the roster as well.

Welcome!

The Cicerone Certification Program seeks to improve beer quality by certifying the knowledge and tasting skills of those who sell and serve beer. Knowledgeable beer professionals mean better beer for beer consumers and better business brewers and businesses who sell beer.

The program offers three levels of certification starting with Certified Beer Server then progressing to Certified Cicerone® and Master Cicerone®. Certifications must be earned in sequence and they include a combination of examination formats. To earn the Certified Cicerone credential, candidates must pass a tasting exam where they identify beer styles and off-flavors then assess the fitness of several beers to be served to consumers.

The examination sequence forms the core of the Cicerone Certification Program.  Candidates may prepare themselves using our Novice and Master Syllabuses found on this web site using both free and purchased educational resources from the Cicerone Program and from other sources.

Please let your friends and colleagues know about the program and our website.

Cheers,

Ray Daniels

Director
