I am in the process of making a (huge) career shift, and I was hoping the folks here on the forum could help me out.  I am currently a tax and employee benefits attorney, but I really, REALLY want to make the leap into the craft beer scene.  Assuming that relocation is not an issue, does anyone have any ideas on how I might conduct a job search for this industry?  I'm thinking that I would like to work in a brewery, beer bar, restaurant, or several other places, as long as the focus is beer.  I'm BJCP certified, and I have a fair amount of beer-related experience under my belt, but how do I sell myself to prospective employers?

Any input is appreciated.   Grin

Jeffrey,
I would start your inquiry at probrewer.com.  There are often positions posted there so you may find one right off the bat.  Also, check out wineandspiritsjobs.com  Might find something there.  Lastly, speak to your local brewery, even if they don't have a position, they may know someone who does.  Good luck.

Another resource would be http://www.careersinbeer.com/

I've never used it, but it seems to be a site dedicated to jobs in the beer industry.

As you start your search, you might also inquire about volunteer opportunities at a local brewery. It is a great way to learn some of the basic tasks such as cleaning kegs, tanks, etc.  Having a handle on some of these skills could never hurt.

Take it from somebody who started as a volunteer and became a professional brewer!   Grin
