I'm David Staab from Zeno's in State College, PA.

I'm a beer, wine & whiskey enthusiast, a dormant homebrewer and general manager of a beer bar.

Certification sounds like a fine idea, and of course, it'll be very intriguing to watch this develop from it's infancy.

The sample exam is a good idea.

hey all - my name is brent fox and i'm an elementary school teacher in long beach, california.  although currently not in the beer industry, i am an avid homebrewer and still hold on to that dream of someday opening a brewery ... or at least a pub in my garage.  after picking up garrett oliver's "brewmaster's table" book, i have been seriously interested in the whole idea of beer/food pairing, and what i was previously calling a "beer sommelier."  i think this cicerone program is an excellent idea, and i can't wait to see it grow in the future.

count me in for the tier 1 testing ... i'll start saving up those teacher paychecks ...

good luck with this ray.  thanks for getting this program started.

best,

brent

Hi,

My name's Ian Cowpar, and I co-operate www.2beerguys.com

We're a craft beer review site operating in Massachusetts, with a focus on campaigning for local breweries and creating awareness of their products.  We're also avid homebrewers, and are working towards the BJCP, and expect to be successful in the beer industry in one manner or another.

Thanks for making this program available, this is certainly something we can use as a stepping stone into the industry.

Cheers,

Ian

My name is Lachlan McLean.  I started homebrewing 10 yrs ago, and I've been working (part time) at the best homebrew shop in Denver since June of this year.  I really like the idea of the Cicerone program.  Too often, when I buy bottle conditioned beers, the person at the register tips the bottles onto their sides.  A little knowledge can turn this around!  I plan to spread the word and point as many people as I can to this site.  Can't wait to take the exam.

I'm Andy Ager.  Started homebrewing in 1994, in grad school.  Left grad school in '96, and that December stumbled upon the Chicago Beer Society, after getting more interested in brewing.  Pretty much immediately turned on the jets there while "studying" with (read: drinking and judging with!) Ray & Co., leading quickly to a BJCP exam.  Wound up in the industry on the retail side in Brooklyn, NY in 2001, helping to run a small beer-and-food-oriented specialty grocery (Bierkraft).  While there, I had a few discussions with the owner of the wine shop down the street from us about some sort of "beer sommelier" program, as he was an Education Director for the national sommelier organization.  Now I'm in New Hampshire, running a homebrew club and working on my brewing again after a long layoff, and occasionally presenting tastings and pairings in the area.  I'm also working on pulling the beer scene together a bit more up here -- lots of brewers, not a lot of contact.

Welcome Hart.  I look forward to your input on the program.  (Everyone else too!)  Please feel free to share your comments on the novice and master syllabus.  Soon we'll have the Certified Beer Server exam online and I'll be interested in feedback on that too.

My name's Mike Karolitzky, and I am a pretty avid beer drinker and proponent to the craft brewing community.  I've organized (one) trip so far for 6 friends to a beer tasting in Boston, and they are already asking me to plan the next!

My main interest is in starting a beer consulting business, and I am looking to learn and experience what I need to thrive in my business goals.

Thanks for the opportunity, I look forward to learning!

Well, I thought I'd introduce myself too. My name is Jason Kocina and I'm the Sales Development Manager for a distributor in Southern Minnesota. We sell mostly the big boys but we also have some well known craft brands.
The syllabus looks great and I look forward to seeing this program grow. I believe the time is right for this concept to really take off.

Cheers!

Hello All,

Just wanted to introduce myself.  Got introduced to home brewing and english ales around the age of 19-20 and have been a beer fan ever since.  Ended up at Chicago's Map Room for nine years, was a GM and Buyer for around three years.  Currently work for the Bevrage Testing Institute, located in Chicago.  We run blind tastings/competitions for beer, wine, and spirits, fun gig.  Recently discovered Ray's program and excited about the potential.  Looking forward to certification and contributing.  When will the on line certification take place?  Have fun and Respect Beer.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone,

I'm Gavin Guest, a User Interface designer living in the Kansas City metro. Currently, I simply host beer tastings for friends and explore the craft beer world to the best of my abilities. I've taken up home brewing to get a deeper understanding of beer in general.

My business partner and I are in the early stages of building a new business that - if we do it right - should help elevate craft beer awareness and appreciation. I'll be taking the server exam when it's available and Tier 2 as soon as I'm ready after that. I read about Cicerone.org in BA Mag.

Hi all,

Just an update on the exam.  I have written nearly 150 questions so far and still have a few more to complete.  Meanwhile I have been sending them out for review by folks who I know and trust to check for clarity and accuracy.  Also have gotten all the online exam stuff straight so it should be ready for primetime when I get the questions completed.

Bottom line:  look for the exam to be online no later than December 15.

All for now.
