Millennial Milestone PDF Print E-mail

The Cicerone Certification Program awarded the 1000th Certified Beer Server certificate on February 26, passing a significant milestone.  The 60-question exam required for certification first became available to the public on January 3, 2008, so it took just over two years for the first 1000 people to pass. About 1250 exams have been taken during this period, giving an overall pass rate right at 80%.

It won't take another two years to reach 2,000 certificates. The growing popularity of the program has steadily increased the number of people taking the exam each month. At the pace set during January and February of this year, more than 1000 exams will be taken just during 2010.

Individuals earn the certificate by scoring 75% or better on 60 questions chosen at random from a larger pool that covers issues of beer service, beer styles and general beer knowledge.
