Advanced Cicerone® Syllabus

The Advanced Cicerone® Syllabus presents an outline of the knowledge tested in the exam. Review it to guide your studies and assess your readiness for the exam.

Knowledge Area Responsibilities

Advanced Cicerone candidates must demonstrate expert knowledge of all issues related to brewing, beer, and beer service. The Advanced Cicerone syllabus is your preparation guide. Consider reviewing Certified Cicerone exam study materials in addition to more advanced resources, including some recommended for Master Cicerone® preparation. In-depth theoretical and hands-on practical knowledge of draft systems is required. Comprehensive beer style knowledge is expected, including familiarity with multiple commercial examples of each style. Candidates must be able to identify the beer flavour compounds listed on the syllabus by taste. We use AROXA™ flavour standards in testing.

Brewing beer alone or with others can reinforce your understanding of the brewing process and its variations. Experience preparing and presenting beer and food pairings is valuable. Throughout the exam, candidates must describe beer (and food) flavours using concrete and specific terms that accurately cover the full flavour spectrum."
