We are happy to announce the dates for the next Master Cicerone Exam.

The exam will be held only one time in 2015, in Chicago, on May 5-6th.

The exam will be limited to 24 participants.  ALL registration for the Master Cicerone Exam is on a first come, first served basis. Once the roster has filled, alternate candidates will be designated for the exam, in case a registered candidate postpones their exam. These alternates are not required to submit payment until a spot becomes available.

About the Master Cicerone Exam

Candidates for Master Cicerone® Exam will participate in a two-day examination that includes multiple written, oral and tasting components. The written component will consist of essay questions where candidates demonstrate the depth and breadth of their knowledge in each portion of the Master Syllabus.  Oral examinations will be conducted by industry experts and often involve hands-on demonstrations of knowledge. Taste assessments will include a broad range of off-flavors, blind assessment of beer styles and advanced assessment of beer flavor profiles.

The exam covers all of the five main areas of study, and candidates are responsible for all of the knowledge on the Master Syllabus. This exam has been given seven times, and only seven people presently hold the title.

Group hotel rates are being arranged, and registered candidates will be regularly updated with details about the exam.

Signing Up for the Master Cicerone Exam

The entire exam fee must be paid at sign up. First time exam fees are $795. Please be sure that you will be ready and able to take the Master Exam on the dates you register for. Once you register, your fees are not refundable.

Should you change your mind about taking the 2015 exam, and notify us that you wish to withdraw prior to November 5, 2014 (six-months prior to the exam), you will receive a credit worth 50% of your original registration fee which you can use to register again in the future. If you withdraw after November 5, 2014, you will receive no such credit and will be required to pay the full registration fee again in the future.

We appreciate your attention and compliance to these policies as they are intended to ensure that those candidates who are prepared for the exam have access to the exam.

Cicerone Certification Program

Founded in 2007, the Cicerone program conducts examinations of beer knowledge for certification at four levels. Thousands of people who work for breweries, beer wholesalers, restaurants, bars, liquor stores and grocery stores have completed one or more levels of the certification program in the past year. Doing so demonstrates knowledge of beer keeping and service, beer styles, flavors, brewing process and ingredients and beer and food pairing.
